Policy Brief - Oral Health Impacts Educational Success

Background

Tegwyn Brickhouse, PhD, is Director of VCU’s iCubed transdisciplinary Oral Health Core and the School of Dentistry’s Oral Health Services Research Core. In addition, she is Interim Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Oral Health Promotion and Community Outreach at the VCU School of Dentistry. She has served VCU as a faculty member since 2003.

Dr. Brickhouse specializes in research related to oral health disparities in vulnerable populations.  Her most recent work has examined the impact of dental program reform in Medicaid on provider participation and behavior in addition to children’s utilization and cost. She had been awarded over 3.2 million dollars in HRSA training grants which support the development of interprofessional and social behavioral curriculum for dental students and residents. Her research explores oral health disparities in vulnerable communities and bridging new partnerships to improve access to care.
