Former Virginia governor L. Douglas Wilder speaking

About us

At the Office of Public Policy Outreach, we connect Virginia Commonwealth University faculty with state and local lawmakers, and provide expert insight into the Virginia policy community.

Our resources, training and events prepare VCU faculty for meaningful interactions with legislators and promote informed public policies for the commonwealth.

As part of the Center for Public Policy at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs, our goal is to promote successful public policies by building long-lasting bridges between academic researchers and Virginia legislators. We believe effective public policy is informed by high-quality research.

Our services

We offer resources and research for VCU faculty and Virginia public policy stakeholders, including:

  • Preparing faculty to effectively interact with Virginia lawmakers
  • Familiarizing academic researchers with Virginia government
  • Surveying Virginians twice  yearly on timely policy topics
  • Providing background insight into critical bills in the Virginia Senate
  • Commonwealth Educational Policy Institute: A program of OPPO, the institute conducts the long-standing Commonwealth Education Poll.
